Forest To Furniture

Ever wonder how a tree became a beautiful piece of furniture in the 19th century? Our new tour for school groups explores the identification of three key tree species in early Kentucky furniture, and the process by which these trees were identified, felled and sawn, and how furniture was designed, crafted, assembled, polished, varnished, and enjoyed during the 19th century.

Far more goes into 19th century furniture than meets the eye. Political influence, style influence, money, and resource availability all affected how furniture was designed and crafted.

45 Minutes, $5 per-student, designed for groups grade 3 to college, worksheets available.
